This year will be the first time these students are in this classroom with me, therefore, we will be creating our classroom library from scratch. I'd like to incorporate current events into my classroom as well as non-fiction and novel texts. I'd also like to incorporate more diversity into their literacy by incorporating multilingual books and books that are representative of our diverse student populations (abilities, gender, ethnicity, etc.). This way, my students are exposed to these concepts and begin to normalize difference. Having this new classroom library will help me reinforce concepts that I teach in core lessons during their silent reading time/free time.
