A diverse classroom library will enable me to teach my students about themselves and other cultures. When children read books in which they see characters like themselves, they feel a sense of belonging and learn to empathize and respect others. Diverse books empower children to imagine and discover new ways of thinking about themselves and their own unlimited potential. By providing books depicting children from varied multicultural backgrounds that "mirror" my students' lives and also allow them to see through "windows" into the lives of children from different backgrounds, I hope to foster a sense of belonging and confidence in my students.

About my class
