The children with hearing loss in my classroom are learning how to embed their natural ability of learning visually with learning how to develop the more challenging skill of listening. Having access to this light table will foster their creativity while opening the door for more meaningful conversations through play and investigation of their materials. This table will be used not only for large group language lessons but also used as a small group STEAM based center. The translucent building blocks will provide me the opportunity to use concepts such as opposites, comparing/contrasting, color manipulation, etc., as well as language development such as prepositional phrases (next to, on top of, behind, above, below), adjectives (big, small, tall, short, red, blue, etc), verbs (build, stack, switch, change, snap, etc.), and thematic vocabulary due to the limitless amount of creative ways the materials could be used! The translucent blocks will allow for creative expression for my students.
