I would like my bilingual second graders to experience Spanish dance and music through Ensemble Español, Spanish Dance Theater in residence at Northeastern Illinois University. Providing this opportunity will allow my students experience different Spanish dance styles including Flamenco, folkloric and classical, while stressing the historical and cultural contributions of Spanish dance and music to the arts. It is my goal to provide to all my students with an opportunity that will help broaden their horizons and gain an appreciation for cultures and the arts. The first and foremost is to empower them by teaching Spanish dance and music traditions that influenced their Hispanic cultural heritage.
