A large rug and portable easel will be used daily as part of our regular routine. As first graders we spend a large part of our day participating in activities on the floor. We begin each morning with the meeting board, followed by whole group lessons for phonics and math. Our space is limited so the easel would make participating in the lessons so convenient by allowing my students to write answers on the white board, use magnetic manipulatives in math, allow us to hang chart paper to brainstorm ideas and graph math problems. The rug and easel would also allow us to comfortably see and discuss a big book during shared reading. We currently use moving blankets in several areas of our room to keep from sitting /laying on cold concrete floors. Despite the circumstances, my students do not and have never complained, but they deserve to have a warm, comfy, cozy, place to learn and grow!
