The items purchased in this project will lay the ground work for a sensory corner in which we will start using immediately. Items include a hanging canopy which will provide privacy and may be calming for some students and pillows that provide a various range of sensory input. Other items such as string fidgets, kinetic sand, water beads, building blocks (Legos and K’nex), and bubbling motion timers will offer students the choice of how they would like to refocus or regain clarity. These items all offer unique sensory input for a spectrum of students and will benefit all of our ages and needs. This corner will not only be a safe environment within our classroom to calm down but will also have a small library of books and games to promote students building relationships with one another using items other than technology. In donating to this project you will be helping me create and provide the appropriate stimulation that my students need, but cannot sometimes voice, due to their disabilities. My hope is that the Chill Out Corner will be a place where one student can go while the others continue to learn and stay on task with minimum distraction.
