Read-aloud books with a focus on growth mindset will give my gifted students the opportunity to develop a positive outlook which can support them throughout their school career and throughout life. I care about my students’ academic growth and I also care about their social-emotional well-being. In the 27 years of teaching elementary students, I have observed the importance of the mindset children choose. I have seen some students with very high intellectual abilities end up depressed, anxious and unsuccessful in their ability to grow into a healthy and balanced person. These books will give opportunity for class discussion and personal reflection. They can write their thoughts in growth mindset journals. My hope is that these journals will be a source of encouragement for them when they leave my classroom.
