I am attempting to create a library environment that will intrigue and inspire sixth grade students to read more intentionally. The endeavor to meet the literary needs of students with such varying backgrounds, nationalities and reading abilities is certainly challenging. My greatest desire is for students to understand that reading is a privilege and should be cherished. If reading can become cherished, I believe more of it will happen. Providing an intriguing variety of reading materials will enhance that desire to read and will assist in reaching more students from every skill set. I also believe that students equipped with the desire to read will go on to become confident readers, effective writers and influential speakers. I wish implanting my reading philosophies into students would be enough, but I know that effective teaching tools are necessary to help create and inspire students to be excited about reading.
