Some of my younger students are struggling to read because they have not had enough instruction in phonics. They are frustrated when it comes to reading and avoid it as much as possible. We are requesting games and activities that make learning letter sounds and sight words more engaging. I believe that if my project is funded, I would have materials such as games and other hands on manipulatives that would teach them the fundamentals of reading while allowing them to have fun. Since I have a class with three grade levels, I do not have all the time I need with each individual. Thus, having these extra activities would allow my students to practice reading on their own and be engaged while doing so. "The teaching to read activity center" is something that I will use when working with struggling readers during small group learning. This will also be used by individual students to practice what they have learned. The flip and read sight word sentences will be used by our classroom aide when working with individual students to improve sight word mastery. The stack-n-build simple words will be used by individual students who need practice making simple words. The word sliders is another activity that will provide additional practice for students who are just learning to read.
