These books will help building my counseling library and aide my students in becoming social emotionally competent. Majority of students in my school are English language learners. Within the English language learners we have a students that born in the United States but are send abroad to live with their grandparents or extended family members to be cared for until school age (usually start of kindergarten). These children might not have gotten any formal education in their country. When they returned to the U.S., they are in a cultural shock. They have to learn to live with their "parents", learn to be in a school, and struggles with structure. In addition to the adjustment, they also have to learn a new language. They struggle to adjust culturally, as well as academically, socially and emotionally. My project will make a different in the school as I will be better equip in assisting all our students to achieve life success. These books will address the social and emotional needs of the students. Through the books we are requesting, students will learn to build their emotional intelligence. It will provide students strategies and tools to regulate their emotions to succeed in school and in life. It will also help students develop a growth mindset, self-concept, and social awareness and build better relationship with peers. The students will learn to talk about their feelings. They will also acquire strategies to regulate their emotions.
