Imagine walking into a classroom as a student and having the ability to sit wherever you would like. You could have the option of sitting on a cushy beanbag chair, wobble chair, lying on a comfy rug, or even on a stability ball.
Student engagement and motivation are increased when students have the freedom and responsibility to decide where they work. Students are more focused when they are trusted to make decisions about their own learning. Students also learn about themselves as learners and become more independent workers. Students will be able to use the exercise balls, wobble stools, regular stools, or balance disk at their desks or around the room. Students will also be able to use the rug as a comfortable place to read a book or complete their work. The chair bands will be an option for the students who constantly need to be moving. In addition to all of these new seating choices, the students will have two more beanbag chairs to use during their work time. More choices about the materials that students can use during flexible seating will meet more of their needs and will give them more options about where they can complete their work.
