Students need repetition to strengthen the brain's pathways which improve a student's mathematical fluency. In my classroom, I use apps created by classroomfocusedsoftware which provide this repetition along with real-time assessment. If a student gets an answer incorrect it shows up red and when a student get an answer correct it shows up green. There is no fru fru or animation, just real math problems that I can set to a specific child's needs. I use the apps along with an AppleTV to project as a small group activity, but this limits individual student-specific academic levels. Along with new operating systems from Apple any old Ipads just can't keep up and makes these great resources unusable. Many students do not have the time or help at home so every moment at school is very precious. My class only receives an assistant for 30 minutes a day to help struggling students so by acquiring two new up to date iPads in the classroom to practice mathematical concepts these students, as well as the rest of the class, can and will benefit greatly during math rotations. Practicing to understand the concepts of counting, making 10, addition, and subtraction greatly affects a child's mathematical fluency and understanding. The wonderful thing is that this will help all of my students and will reach them at their individual academic level.
