Being comfortable is important to almost everyone, especially children. Flexible seating offers the opportunity for students to be in a comfortable learning environment every day. Right now, my students have worked for two months learning our current flexible seating option: stool seats, scoop seats, lap desks, crate seats, and free standing yoga balls. Over these short two months, students have learned to use the seating and have fallen in love with feeling comfortable in the classroom all while learning many new things.
Having flexible seating options gives students the control over their own learning and learning environment. Many students were surprised that they enjoyed certain seats they didn't imagine they would like. The flexible seating options I have chosen will give students a new option as well as enhance one of our already implemented seating choices. Many students love sitting on the floor during the day, but feel the need to have a table to spread their work out on. The floor table and pillow seats will allow students to have just that. A table to work at while still being to sit in their own comfortable way on the floor! The yoga ball chair stands will help enhance the yoga balls we have been using! Students love the yoga balls, but have found it challenging to sit on one when it is not on a solid stand. The product I chose will allow students to sit on a yoga ball in a chair where the wheels lock. Here they still get the small bouncing motion of the ball all while staying in one place!
Flexible seating has already been a huge success in our classroom! The next step is to create more options and make our already available options work even better!
