My students absolutely love books! It's so exciting to bring a new stack of used books into the room on Monday morning and see the excitement on their faces! They can't get them into their hands fast enough.
My students need a set of books, Because if Winn Dixie. Did I mention my students love to read? Each day during DEAR time they are practically glued to the books they are reading. Most can finish a chapter book a week and can't wait to find another one to start. In addition to books read on their own, they still love to come to the carpet to be read to.
Reading aloud to students is the single most important activity for reading success. It provides children with a demonstration of fluent reading with expression, and it expands their vocabulary. Reading aloud also reveals the rewards of reading, and develops the listener's interest in books, as well as their desire to be a reader. It also allows students the opportunity to find text evidence to support one's thinking. It is so important that my students have their own copies of the literature we are reading in order for them to follow along, ask questions, cite text evidence, and make connections.
Thank you so much for considering my project!
