Many of our 2nd grade students struggle with learning basic literacy and math skills. Our District has acquired excellent software programs geared to assess and teach according to individual student needs, but even with several carts of laptops and iPads our students cannot utilize the software because we lack sufficient headphones. We also have many English language learners. Headphones help them to hear directions clearly. Other students have learning disabilities that make it difficult for them to focus. Headphones block out distracting noises and help them concentrate on learning. The headphones we currently have are old and wearing out, and funds are unavailable to replace them. To help our students gain necessary literacy and math skills, plus prepare them for a future filled with technological tools, we need more headphones.
