This year my journalism students are focusing on improving the quality of photographs in our publications,a printed student newspaper, a website, social media, and an annual literary and art journal. We are studying photojournalism, basic photography rules, and layout. Currently, we are limited to an outdated point and shoot camera and student phones. Additionally, my more advanced IB film students have expressed an interest to film some of their project footage on a DSLR to experiment with light and depth of field. A classroom DSLR would give both of these classes a tool that would provide hands-on learning that will foster creativity and grow their technical knowledge and skills.
