My students need to learn social skills and apply them in multiple environments. Social skills do not come naturally to these students, but literature is one effective strategy that can show them how to use social skills. These can include good manners, taking turns, peer relationships, thinking before speaking, not overreacting, responsibility, and respect. These books will allow my students to understand what good social skills look like. The books will be read aloud to small groups of students. While reading the story aloud, students will have opportunities to discuss the character's actions, word choice, and consequences. Afterwards, students will be able to role play the new social skill learned.
