The Everyday Heroes book will be used in conjunction with Beowulf to examine heroes over time, how they're defined based on societal values and norms, and why we need them. The shorty story and poetry books will be used to create expert groups that read, analyze and present the literature to each other. This covers three Common Core standards at once: Speaking and Listening, Reading Literature and Language. It honors classic literature and provides a bridge to contemporary characters, settings and conflicts. It helps create a student-driven environment and allows for technology integration
