As a teacher, one of the biggest challenges is to meet the needs of every single learner in the classroom. One way to help meet their needs is to give them student choice and the ability to feel comfortable in a learning environment. Giving students the opportunity for flexible seating will help give the students a chance to feel comfortable in a learning environment and in return will become more confident in their learning. Another portion of this is giving students more control in the room. They will be able to choose where they get to sit and how they want to learn for the day. Lastly, flexible seating gives an unwritten commitment to learning. There will be expectations with the various seating and if they can't focus on their learning while using the furniture, they will be asked to choose a different location. Because of this expectation, students will make more of an effort and commitment to learning so that they can stay at their chosen area for the day. My students need exercise balls, wobble cushions, and stools for flexible seating.
