The goal in our school is to support students as they become independent readers, writers and critical thinkers. In order to make this happen, we need to provide them with longer, more complex novels that not only engage their interests but also push their stamina. By using critically acclaimed novels such as "Shiloh", "Shoeshine Girl" and "How to Steal a Dog" our students can delve into deeper thinking about theme, character development and advanced vocabulary. I believe strongly that reading is the first step in the path to success for our students. Dr. Seuss had it right. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
