My art students have experienced the process of using a program called Tinkercad to develop various 3D models. Tinkercad is a computer-aided design program. Students have been limited to making 3D models of household items. Students were astonished by what they could accomplish. This was a new experience for all of them. Many were very inspired and eager to exceed the basic requirements. We had conversations about game designs and other professions that would require computer-aided design skills.
The Creality CR-10 3D printer will build the model that the student-designed so, they can analyze the quality of their own designing skills. Analyzing will promote continued growth and refinement of their skills. Evaluating their own designs and those of others, will also promote collaboration and learning at the highest levels. The utilization of the printer in my lessons on computer-aided design will allow me to expand the depth and content of my instruction. I will develop lessons that demonstrate the correlation of art to useful job skills.
