My school is in a large urban area of Ohio and is part of Constellation Schools, a charter school organization. Until this school year, our building did not have a gym, art room, or library, and the elementary music teacher and I shared a small music room. It is a public, tuition-free school, and holds the mission of providing every child an excellent education based on character education. Teachers have created a positive and safe learning environment, and they often come into school early, work through planning time and lunch periods, and stay after school long hours. My students are in grades 5-8 and are very diverse. Many families are single-parent, low-income families, or have other limited resources. They express gratitude for the hard work of school staff, and are supportive of our mission.
