I have been working with most of my students for the past year and a half and have come to know them very well. I have learned that many of my students are lacking the social experiences necessary to interact with each other in age appropriate ways. I have also learned that my students are so excited to be introduced to a new book. Upon opening the cover of a new book, my once busy young students become focused and captivated by the characters and their stories. By using the exciting books I have selected, I will be able to capitalize on their enthusiasm and immerse my students in a wide range of new experiences. Julia Cook is a fabulous author who has written many and illustrated a variety of wonderful books for children just like the ones in my classroom! Cook writes books about about topics such as tattling, respecting personal space, accepting the word "no" and so much more. We are requesting a variety of books written by Julia Cook to grow our classroom library and our social skills lessons. I plan to directly teach each skill by reading her book and working with my students to practice their new learning in and out of the classroom.
