Each kit has materials for 10 roller coasters. My project would allow students, working in groups of 4, to design a roller coaster. I teach 4 classes each day allowing 120 students to work on the roller coasters. Skills in communications would be developed as students work together to learn about kinetic vs potential energy, friction, and the laws of motion. Building a roller coaster will develop critical thinking skills using the principles of Newton's Laws. This engineering project will encourage my students to explore a new career path with a goal to attend college. Putting into practice the information learned in science will enable students to see a practical use for something they learned in school.
