Many of the concept taught in math are very abstract for the average kindergartner. The tools in this project will help student learning shift from abstract to concrete. For example, the addition balancing scale beautifully models how 2+4=6. Students use the scale by add weight in the form of tiles to one side of the scale, and finding the balance of the math equation by placing a tile on the correct number on the other side of the scale. While the idea of a balanced equation is very abstract, the visual of the scale balancing is very concrete. Abstract to concrete, beautifully demonstrated with just one of learning tools in this project!
