I teach 21 kindergarten students in a lower income school, with 58% of our kindergarten students being second language learners. I also teach special educations students who are learning disabled in my inclusion classroom, and have students dually impacted by both special education and English Language Learner needs. These kids love school, and their families love our school; we do outreach and we are fortunate to know many families for years. Many of my students come with very low vocabulary skills, even if they come from English speaking homes. Speaking and early vocabulary is vital to early literacy.
