I am privileged to work with 8th grade students who flourish when they are supported with expectations that they will succeed and given positive behavior supports. They thrive on affirmation and do best with a structured learning environment that stimulates their learning. My students are also incredibly resilient. According to statistics from the 2017 Nashville Social and Economic Disparity Report, 21% of Davidson County children are food insecure. 30% of the population in North Nashville where most of my students come from are affected by poverty, with some students coming from areas with 40% of the population affected by extreme poverty. While the challenges of poverty do have an effect on my classroom, my students come to school day in and day out, because they can succeed and because they want to grow. My classroom is made up of some incredibly passionate students and leaders looking to be developed.
