Many middle school girls struggle with social perceptions, self-worth and self-image. The ladies on our team work as a family to build each other up but they continue to struggle with those issues imposed on them by friends, family members and society. A few of our members actually lost their homes/resources from hurricane Irma, struggling with hygiene, security and self worth. After taking a poll of the group, more than 2/3 of our ladies perceived themselves as a 5 or less (scale of 1-10, 1 being completely worthless and 10 being as unique as a snowflake). This information was disheartening and left them reeling for support. We met to determine solutions and decided to start a fitness component. We work as a team to cheer each other on, work out and make achievable fitness goals weekly. A donation of this magnitude would make a huge difference in our teams efforts to bond, get fit and gain confidence. Each girl would receive a fit bit and create daily goals they want to achieve. We would track them as a group, cheering them on. We would celebrate daily accomplishments and coach goals unreached. Over time, it is my hope that healthy behaviors will develop, their self perception will become positive and their confidence will grow. This donation will help them to accomplish personal, health and emotional goals that would be otherwise unattainable.
