I would like to create a welcoming safe place for my students filled with materials that will engage them and enhance their daily living skills. My students benefit the most when the skills they practice can be carried out in a realistic, hands-on environment. With the classroom materials requested, students will be able to develop essential independent living skills, which will help lead them towards successfully transitioning from the high school environment into adulthood. These specific materials for this project will be utilized to set up a living room/bedroom space. The carpet and non-skid mat will be utilized to create a warm and welcoming environment, and will allow students to practice their vacuuming skills on a different surface than the current tile that is in the classroom. The bed and mattress being requested looks like a couch, which can make the space versatile, but is a bed that students will be able to practice making. The vacuum being requested will be used to practice cleaning skills.
