Hurricane Harvey had a huge impact on our school year, it has changed the way we teach and learn. I am requesting books that represent the diverse backgrounds of my students. As Donalyn Miller says, "true preferences come from wide reading and lots of positive encounters with books," and I truly believe the books I have selected will help broaden my library to encourage all of my students to LOVE reading. I would love to diversify my library by adding new fiction and nonfiction books about people from different cultures and different parts of the world- my diverse classroom will be able to find stories that they connect with as well as expand their experiences by making new connections. My students are most engaged when they are given choices in their learning. I want books in my library that my students are excited to read, for that I need more enticing poetry, inviting nonfiction, and irresistible fiction stories. Your donations will not only help my students become academically successful, they will also help my students love coming to school everyday!
