Read Across America Day is held every year on Dr. Seuss's birthday to celebrate the love of reading in young readers! This year, we are celebrating in the classroom by inviting community members to join us at our school as guest readers. As our students are from diverse areas of the world, we would love our guest readers to tell stories from the point of view of authors who also share the same experiences. Young readers are more likely to enjoy reading if they see themselves in the material in which they are interacting. We would like for our guest readers to read books which display many different perspectives, written by diverse authors who relate to our unique students. The National Education Association (NEA) provides a Read Across America list of books which represent an array of experiences and cultures. Guest readers for our Dr. Seuss Celebration will be wearing Dr. Seuss hats and will pass out stickers while they sit with students and read books to impressionable readers. Help us spread the love of reading to all children!
