This year I wanted to try something new with my 7th & 8th grade combined general music class. When I walked in on the first day of school, I put the learning in my student's hands. I asked them, "What do you wish to gain from this music class?" Their reply- "We want to play the guitar Mrs. Day". So, we made it happen. I reached out to colleagues and collected as many guitars as I could so that each student would have their own to practice with. We learned plucking, strumming, basic chords, how to read TAB, and many of my students even chose to participate in our Winter Concert. For Middle School students in a General Music class, the level of enthusiasm and willingness to put themselves out there on a stage in front of a packed audience was unheard of. Now, the word has gotten out and I have a much larger class of 24 students, and I only have 12 guitars. Please help me get a Guitar in the hands of each child!
