In a special education classroom, headphones allow students who require an auditory learning accomodation to receive this without disrupting the learning of their fellow classmates. Usually, I or my co-teacher may need to read passages aloud to students. Headphones allow them to take control of their own learning and access assistive tech features available to them on their iPads. It also frees us up to help more students! Headphones allow students to work more independently in the classroom. I can have a group of students reading a passage or watching a video on their iPad, while I work with another group. It's almost like having an extra adult in the room.
