We currently have gel electrophoresis machines to track DNA fingerprints but we don't have the UV transilluminators to analyze the results. My kids ask me all the time why we can't do a lot of hands of labs like in science classes they see on television. Unfortunately, the reality is that we don't have the resources to do some of the things our state standards asks of us. So, we are limited to pencil/paper labs. Science is about doing. We learn by doing. I want to give them that exposure so they can have the stamina to measure up to other students in their cohort across the state. We try to cater to different learning style but not having the resources to do so leaves out the kinesthetic learners. Shouldn't we accommodate them too?
