Students with special needs are all unique in many different ways. Their needs vary depending on disability. Many students in my classroom experience a wide range of disabilities, but they all have one thing in common...the need for movement and fidgeting. In order to help my students be successful, it is my goal to provide approved fidget devices are create minimal distraction for all those learning around us. I want to encourage my students to love learning, and by providing them with the needed sensory and fidget items, they will find success within the classroom and all school settings. Many of my students struggle with even being able to remain seated for the 30 minute time period they are with me. If I had a wobble cushion for each student, they would all be able to move around within their seat to stimulate certain nerves. Some of my students respond well to pressure when they are becoming escalated or frustrated with the work in front of them. By having a weighted lap pad available, I could safely provide that pressure in order to ease their tensions and frustrations. By having a wide range of sensory fidget items nearby, my students could use a fidget while they're working on assignments in order to allow for continuous stimulation without distracting from those around them. The fidgets would be easily stored near our work space for quick access when needed. The students would have the ability to check them out from my classroom and take them back to their general education classroom in order to assist with their academic success in all school settings.
