Access to technology in the classroom is essential to reaching the needs of 21st Century learners. Not only does technology inspire and engage students, but it allows for increased collaboration within a classroom and throughout the world. My students use their Chromebooks daily. However, using a small touch pad to navigate online tools causes frustrating mistakes and challenges for many students. My students need wireless mice and headphones to fully utilize their classroom technology and enhance their learning experience. In addition to classroom use, computers are being increasingly used for state-mandated testing. Some online assessments are even timed, so quick clicking can be the difference between a passing and failing score. Many of my students bring their own headphones in order to work independently on sites that incorporate or rely on the user hearing sounds. Student who are unable to afford headphones, or replacements when earbuds inevitably break, miss out on some resources when working independently. The use of these two simple computer tools would benefit not only this community of learners, but learners in this classroom for years to come.
