With virtual reality equipment, my students will be able to explore the world from afar in an immersive, personal way that I hope will stoke and help them realize their dreams. The equipment I am requesting will support students in my social studies classes, providing the opportunity to experience new adventures without leaving my classroom. Imagine students being able to simulate walking through a trench during World War I or being present at Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech” or even working on their own public speaking skills in front of photorealistic environments. Resources such as Google Expedition, Oculus and NearPod are just a few virtual providers that will help create these new “experiences”. I would love to provide my students with the opportunity to experience pieces of our world that most Maine middle schoolers would never be able to experience. I hope that you will help me achieve my goal of giving my students a new window to the world through virtual reality.
