Some students have the opportunity to study and be exposed to classical literature annually, however my students normally don't have this great opportunity. Classical literature is considered classical for a reason because it helps develop empathy, curiosity, critical thinking, a global view, and a true conscience. Stories such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, Moby Dick, Jungle Book, and a myriad of others can help my students developed all those important qualities I mentioned above. Exposure is everything and I want my scholars to be exposed to the absolute best literature possible so they can be exposed to different worlds in addition to learn to think more critically. An equitable education is what we all desire for each student and I believe with a steady diet of the classics stories my students can receive a truly equitable education. My students will check out the books from my classroom library and read with their book club, their partner, or on their own. They will use their reading to take notes, discover new vocabulary, and to meet new characters that will become lifelong companions. They will begin their journey through the classics.
