I believe that reading is an important part of learning and the stories that we read as children stick with us throughout our lives. I remember many of the books that I read when I was young as I am sure you do too. For students who don't have access to a variety of reading materials, they won't have those same memories of reading a novel for fun, but also learning a thing or two along the way. I intend to use class novel sets as a way to not only expand the vocabulary of my EL students and practice comprehension, but also as a way to expose them to the pleasures of reading fiction and show them that you can learn things about life, people and problem solving through reading.
