Knowing how to communicate, clean properly, and showing creativity through art and cooking is a privilege most young adults will retain. Our students learn these skills in their own way, step-by-step. Having the opportunity to practice these skills through fun activities, such as playing board games and art projects, reaches students with different learning styles who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork. The materials I am requesting will be used to implement my Art, Music, Cooking, and Life Skills Curriculum. By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve student's individual abilities, but together we will help them participate in society by communicating effectively and supplying job training. Each week we will focus on a specific topic by teaching it in different ways that each student can understand. Monday, we introduce the topic through video, PowerPoint, and writing skills. Tuesday, we create art using the topic. Wednesday, we shop in the community. Thursday, we cook with the topic, and Friday is auditory learning through music. Every day they will have the responsibility of cleaning up after themselves during class jobs and having the opportunity to communicate with their typically developing peers through age appropriate play. Focusing on our students abilities will give them the opportunity to find the right job, make friends, and be more independent during and after high school. We are taking the "dis" out of DisABILITY by showing the world what we CAN do!
