One thing we are lacking is a class set of a novel. I'm asking for a set of Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. It's an award winning book about the perseverance, friendship, and bravery of a young California Native. Giving them the ability to refer back to different passages will nurture their skills in identifying key details, while allowing them the time they need individually to process the text. In addition, exploring the culture and lifestyle of California Natives is not only a Social Studies standard, it's also helps children consider multiple perspectives when navigating through life.

About my class
