Students are engaged through Makerspace projects. Students participate in the Makerspace movement by donating endless supplies of materials such as paper plates, newspapers, foil, cardboard, etc. In order to keep these supplies organized, we need storage bins that students can easily access. The organized supplies in carts will allow for portability as well. Makerspace projects promote the 4 Cs (collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking) in education. Example of a Makerspace project: I pose a problem to students (Hurricanes can destroy buildings and home) and then challenge students to "create a structure that will withstand a hurricane." With the Engineering Design Process in mind, students communicate collaboratively in groups to brainstorm ideas. Then they design a plan by drawing a diagram. Students use readily-available items such as toilet paper rolls, straws, pipe cleaners, etc. to create their structure. After students create and test their structure, they are provided opportunities to make improvements to their structure.
