Do you remember when you were younger and reading involved sitting in a circle on the carpet and you would get to bring your favorite book? Now that we are adults, we all want to go back to those days where we were read to, read picture books, and were encouraged to take naps! My Donor's Choose project involves getting new floor seating for my students, a rug to add some color and a soft place to read, and two bookshelves to help house all of the books my students are dying to read!
As a reading teacher, I pride myself in encouraging students that reading can be their escape from everything and anything. I make sure that my students know how important reading is in their lives and always suggest titles that they may enjoy. With this project, I am hoping that the students will be more willing to read because they will be more comfortable around the room. Sometimes the students don't enjoy sitting in desks all class. This way, they are able to move around the room and get comfortable just like they used to do in first grade.
A little help and kindness goes a long way.
