We live in a culture that expects a workforce that is flexible and dynamic, with creative thinkers and outside-the-box problem solvers. Then we expect students to develop these skills and be successful while sitting in a traditional classroom setting. Many adults do not work all day sitting down at a desk, and my students will not work that way when they leave school and enter the workforce. In my classroom, students are encouraged to choose where and how they work, both independently and with partners. They are encouraged to move their bodies as needed. In order to remain focused and develop the necessary skills to be successful in the 21st-century workforce, many students need the flexibility to choose seating options that work for them as they explore, practice and master their learning objectives. l would like to provide my students with stools that move with them, allowing them to get their wiggles out while still remaining focused during instruction and independent work time. The wobbling movement on an Active Learning Stool works core and back muscles while increasing blood to the brain which improves concentration and thinking.
