My students get plenty of screen time at home, and they are growing up in a technology driven world. In my classroom, I am very focused on providing opportunities for my students to explore the world around them and create, with ample time and materials that they will not get anywhere else. My students LOVE to build and create each day at school. The trains, Lego's, and blocks are the most popular areas in my classroom. Providing my students with more manipulatives will increase their understanding of foundational math and science concepts, like weight, balance, measuring, counting, and understand cause-and-effect relationships. I am asking for Magna-Tiles to help them grasp the concepts and attributes of shapes, my students can recognize basic shapes but need support in being able to name the attributes of shapes and understand how they can fit together. Nature blocks will be incorporated into the science area of the classroom as I am putting together a nature themed block area, complete with stones, gravel, pinecones, twigs, and more. The design blocks will be perfect for them to create structures so they can develop stories and play with other children, while incorporating the cars and play people we already have in the classroom. The balancing blocks will be used in small group activities so that I can work with them on developing keen observational skills about weight and balance.
