My students are a diverse group of inquirers that thrive on being able to demonstrate their knowledge through creative projects and captivating presentations. I try to foster a culture of research that involves various media including books, video, Internet, and other print media. The school is a Magnet school that pulls students from all the schools in our system and brings them together to learn in a non-traditional way. Although we have several computers in our classroom where students can do research, our school library as well as our classroom library lacks a wealth of nonfiction books on my students reading level that are specifically related to the topics that we study in third grade. Students use their research to create dramatizations, raps, songs, artistic representations, PowerPoint presentations, movies, and a host of other ways to demonstrate their understanding of a concept.
