The magazine offers each text in four different levels. This will help me differentiate for all my students by teaching them at their individual reading level. In third grade we talk about different genres. Each issue has non-fiction, fiction, poetry and drama which will allow me to expose students to a multitude of genres. The engaging, high quality, authentic text in Scholastic Storyworks Jr will promote a positive reading experience in my classroom. Each issue includes a play that we will use to improve fluency and accuracy. Research supports that students who have a more robust vocabulary become better readers and writers. As we participate in close reading and discussion of the text, I will be able to build students' vocabulary. In addition to having build in writing activity, the high quality articles in the magazine lend themselves to being perfect mentor texts for teaching writing.
