Many of my students have difficulty staying focused during seat work; some more than others. These students often leave their seats, need frequent reminds to stay on task and distract others. Our classroom has updated, but traditional classroom furniture. The seats are traditional plastic student chairs and allow for little movement. The desks can be raised to allow standing work areas, but this has shown little help with my particular group of students. My idea for the wobble chair came from one of my more creative students. Earlier this year I provided some of the students with an elastic band to bounce their legs on as they sit at their desks. One day my creative student had a little more energy than normal, and at some point of the day put his chair on the floor and bounced on the elastic band between the legs of the chair. Of course I had him stop and put his chair back upright and explained it wasn't safe to use the band in that way, but he did get my thinking about his true needs and what could really help him focus. The wobble chairs would provide my students with the option to find the chair that helps the learn the best and stay focused. Please help me provide them with the resources to meet their learning needs.
