I started with my three middle school classrooms in December after having several years out of the classroom. I truly believe in the potential of children living in the most impoverished areas of our city. Now that I am back in the classroom - and on a mission to continue proving - children in the inner city can achieve at high levels - we need the most basic school supplies materials for creating a positive learning environment. There is a need to set up Literacy Centers for grades six through eight, to establish a Reading and Writing workshop within the classroom, and to create student-centered learning activities and lessons to meet the diverse needs of the children I serve. Literacy Centers are areas in the classroom which have all of the materials needed to practice specific skills in Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Vocabulary Development. Children will demonstrate their learning through performance assessments requiring pencils, pens, markers, crayons, construction paper, poster boards, and use of technology on Chrome Books. We will utilize teacher-led, leveled Guided Reading lessons, and our online licenses for ScootPad and Razz Kids in order to make sure each child receives support that is tailored to individual needs. I hope to attract donors who would help me to achieve the goal of securing at least 1.5 years growth in the time we have left this school year. I have an M.S. in Curriculum & Instruction and a K-12 Reading Endorsement. My most recent group of students achieved growth ranking in the 99th percentile on NWEA M.A.P. I hope to attract donors who will help me to achieve similar success.
