The students I teach come to me hating math. They have been told that they are not good at it, and that it is a waste of time. I have to fight to get students to give math another chance. By using manipulative and games, students are able to learn math in a more hands-on environment. They can see just how things add up and work together. By having math games in my classroom, I hope to instill the idea that math doesn't have to be a bore but can actually be fun and interesting. My school is on block scheduling so every class is an hour and thirty five minutes long. These games would be a great way to encourage students to finish their work so that they have time for a game at the end of class. I would also allow students to come into my room before school to play if they would like.
